Dear Editor! What a wonderful resource this is! Please post our announcement (our audience spans 21 countries!)! With your permission i would like to link your site with our - so the passionate educators in our group can provode som eof the materials or connections or other help to your cause. Let me know what you think! I am sure the universe looks kindly upon you and your good works. Regards, Rosanna

The One Voice Northeast Regional Conference & Forum is unique: its DNA contains the blueprint for action, interaction, activism, and advocacy for positive change in education. Typical One Voice attendees are impassioned and invested in the event’s outcomes, perhaps the most important one of which is the presentations by ELC (Education Leadership Council) facilitators. ELC meetings are a opportunity for educators to come together, identify the most significant issues in education from their diverse experience and devise practical solutions for them. Most importantly, the results do not become static documents with no outcomes. Rather, the results are compiled and form the nucleus and inspiration for the Declaration of Equity and Excellence, a powerful tool being written by One Voice participants for the education and guidance of administrators, politicians, and other decision-makers in education going forward. The excellent, thought provoking results of the ELC brainstorming sessions, the hallmark of One Voice events, are dynamic, incredibly informative and confirmed the philosophy of the organization: Educators are the (SMEs) subject matter experts when it comes to improving learning and teaching, and when asked can provide the answers to the important questions. Based on the great success of the ELC meetings, and the important directives they yielded, it has been decided that they will be a part of all future One Voice events. What started in San Francisco is on its way across the country and around the world. We hope you will join us and further this important work by contributing your thoughts, your experience, your ideas, and your VOICE!
In San Francisco in summer 2008 at a One Voice event, groups of educators took on the task of identifying the most critical issues in education today, labored over practical, expert solutions, and presented them in an outstanding show of solidarity and active commitment to positive change. What began there is being continued in New York, then Santa Fe, San Francisco, Denver, and Seattle. You are being invited to be part of it. Learn more and add your name to the invitation list at http://www.elementalethics.com.

I have the greatest interest to be involved on Human right conferences from now up to the end of my life as
I am highly indebted for protecting child`s Rights in Tanzania.
My great concern is that:-
Children need safer life. Safe child's life is crucial for cognitive, social and emotional development. Therefore, it is important that we take every step necessary to ensure that children grow up in environments where their social, emotional and educational needs are met. Children who grow up in environments where their developmental needs are not met are at an increased risk for compromised health and safety, learning and developmental delays.

Children have problems with aggression, a remarkably persistent personality characteristic, with aggression at age eight reliably predicting adult criminality. It is needed to know more about risks for childhood aggression and resilience in the face of such risks. Mostly, boys from urban areas are arrested for crime before and by the age of 18. This is a problem from aggressiveness in early childhood or later, poses stronger research challenges, and requires wholly the strongest responses from society. More research on the circumstances of poor families, the experiences of their children growing up and as young adults, and their opportunities for participation in mainstream society is necessary to inform interventions at the level of the individual, the community, and the society.
Failure to invest time and resources during children’s early years may have long term effects on the foster care, health care, and education systems. Therefore, it is my devoted interest to ensure that children develop in safe, loving, and secured environments.

DT, to be honest, I had not yet heard of the deafread conf, so if you truly feel it is appropriate to the goals of We Can Do, please do enlighten me.

But to clarify the purpose of We Can Do (which you can also learn about by clicking on "About We Can Do" and Why We Can Do" in the top navigation bar), this blog is focused on disability and INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT -- meaning it focuses on concerns related to Deaf and disabled people in DEVELOPING (not industrialized) countries, and generally on issues related to fighting poverty, human rights, education, etc. But with sensitivity to the fact that certain challenges are unique to, or greater and immensely more complex in, developing countries. (For example, in some countries, if you want to ensure access to interpreting services in university classrooms, you first need to have deaf people in primary school. Then secondary school. Then graduating from secondary school. Because there's no point in having interpreters at university if there are no deaf students ready to use them. And you need to have sign language interpreters in the country. Which means training them. Which means having people with the right skills to train them. Including of course deaf adults. Which, oh, means they need a basic education first to help prepare them for training others. Which means you need more deaf children being allowed to attend primary school again ... Which asides from all the usual deaf-related challenges of helping parents and teachers recognize the true potential of a deaf child may also involve installing gender segregated bathrooms so that menustrating girls need not allow embarassment to keep them at home for days each month, or helping families gain easier access to clean water so children can spend time going to school and studying, not fetching water.

In other words, I tend to leave out conferences that seem primarily geared to the needs and interests of middle class people in industrialized conferences. There are already plenty of those around, and plenty of avenues for advertising or finding them. But not as many conferences geared toward the needs of people from developing countries.

DT, to be honest, I had not yet heard of the deafread conf, so if you truly feel it is appropriate to the goals of We Can Do, please do enlighten me.

But to clarify the purpose of We Can Do (which you can also learn about by clicking on “About We Can Do” and Why We Can Do” in the top navigation bar), this blog is focused on disability and INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT — meaning it focuses on concerns related to Deaf and disabled people in DEVELOPING (not industrialized) countries, and generally on issues related to fighting poverty, human rights, education, etc. Because there’s no point in having interpreters at university if there are no deaf students ready to use them. And you need to have sign language interpreters in the country. Which means training them. Which means having people with the right skills to train them. Including of course deaf adults. Which, oh, means they need a basic education first to help prepare them for training others.
